Trip Report - Akuani River Lodge, Colombia

Hopes were very high amongst our group of eleven, as we headed downstream on the mighty Orinoco to the lodge. We had an amazing mix of interesting, friendly guests, including my youngest son Greger fishing the jungle for the first time.

We quickly learned that our Peacock fishing was going to be tough. The area had experienced significant amounts of heavy rains for this time of year, and the fish seemed to respond my hunkering down and keeping their mouths shut. Nevertheless, the group persevered and caught a few nice double digit fish.

As many of you know, during the fishing week the groups at Akuani also fish two days on the Orinoco exclusively targeting Payara. Here, we did have some great fishing, with many many fish hooked. Greger in fact, hooked three fish on one cast which was epic.

Even though we were disappointed with the fishing conditions for Peacock Bass, we had a fantastic week. This happens when experienced anglers understand that fishing can be fishing, and when the outfitter does a great job at everything else. We cannot say enough about how perfectly organized everything was during our week, how friendly and helpful the staff was, and how great our meals by their new chef Andreo were.

We have two weeks reserved for 2026. Once is now sold out, while the others still has space. Please shoot us a message if you are interested!!
