Playa Larga, Zapata Peninsula Flats, & the Rio Hatiguanico
This is a trip for anglers wanting a more chill option. In Playa Larga, we stay on the beach and can swim and sip mojitos after fishing while the sun sets over the Bay of Pigs. We will fish the flats of Las Salinas. Noted for plentiful Bonefish, I chose these dates as they also provide the best time of the year to target Tarpon as well. There are also Permit, Barracuda, Snook, Jacks and Snapper that inhabit this environment. I also chose this specific week for tides that will optimize our fishing opportunities during each day.
We will also fish the Rio Hatiguanico. This is unique in Cuba, as the only freshwater fishery for Tarpon that guests have access to. This can be very exciting as anglers cast to groups of rolling Tarpon most of which are between 15-30 pounds. We will be the only people on the river, aside from two guards who are there to make sure no poaching occurs.
I have 4 open spots for our group. I will cap it at 10, myself included. I will host the week, which will make this about my 35th trip to the island of Cuba.
