NEWLY-ADDED CUBA WEEKS - PART 2

Gardens of the Queen is the most famous of all the fishing destinations in Cuba. It is renowned the world over for its pristine habitat, abundant coral and apex predators, and of course the flats fish that fly anglers love to pursue. Located about 50 miles from the Cuban mainland, it is inaccessible to all but a few lucky anglers, divers, and eco tourists who are allowed to visit each year.

All flats fish live in and around GOQ throughout the year. That said, Spring and early Summer see this area blossom as baitfish congregate, and schools of Tarpon move in from the deeper water to feed. Some of these fish are migratory, but many of them reside throughout the year among the reefs and coral canyons surrounding the islands. The majority of the Tarpon are in the 20-50 pound range, although there are almost always bigger fish present.

Along with Tarpon, Gardens of the Queen has pristine habitat for bonefish. They range in size from schoolies to fish of 7-8 pounds. And, they can be stalked from the skiff or on foot. There are also great opportunities for Permit, for anglers insistent upon chasing the elusive unicorn. AND, all other predator fish abound here, including Jacks, Snapper, Grouper and Barracuda.

This abundance of Tarpon makes this time of year most popular with anglers, and most expensive as well. The outfitter is all too aware of the demand that exists, and charges accordingly. That said, it is not Seychelles pricing, and you do not have to fly for 2 days just to get to Cuba! That alone mitigates the price to a degree.

We will be staying aboard the luxurious JAlll yacht. At around 160’ in length, the JAlll has 15 rooms all equipped with shower, bathroom, a/c and unlimited freshwater. Besides the interior rooms such as the dining area and common room, there are several outside gathering areas where guests can relax after a day of fishing, while enjoying a mojito and a cigar. Our group is limited to 7 guests with me as the host. There will be another group of the same size aboard the boat.

Available rooms to us are 4 singles, and 2 doubles. Usually, we have at least one couple along, or a father and son who want to room together. Otherwise, we will have to figure out who would be sharing the 2 double rooms. I would love to have you along. Please reach out with your questions, or if you would like to reserve your spot.
